The Cult of the Novel Info
Have you ever felt as though your life is turning into a novel?
‘The Cult of the Novel’ is a literary experiment I began back in 1979, where I attempt to ‘live a novel’ and record what I do as if it were an ongoing text, moving on to involve other people in various ‘plots’ and ‘strands’, the various levels of observation coming to impact on both life and the text in Heisenbergian fashion. I described its genesis in The Mad Artist: Psychonautic Adventures in the 1970s, and it carried on sporadically through the ’80s, changing in form and focus before more or less petering out…or so I thought.
After writing The Mad Artist, making it all live again and contemplating how my work might proceed in the future, I’ve come to realise that the experiment never really ended and is in fact still ongoing – and everything that’s happening, including this page is part of its continuation.
